The National Resistance Movement party (NRM) electoral commission chairman has said he will not go easy on the party chairman and president of the country should he flout the rules of the nominations process.
Mr Tanga Odoi told journalists at the party headquarters on Kyadondo Road in Kampala on Thursday he will declare the Party president's position vacant if no one picks the forms by the 6.00pmdeadline.
"The only unopposed aspirant who has shown interest in the presidency and paid but not picked forms is His Excellency Yoweri Museveni,” Mr Odoi said.
"If by tomorrow 6.00pm President Museveni has not picked his forms in person, I will declare the position vacant,” Mr Odoi stressed.
According to the government spokesperson, Mr Ofwono Opondo, the party has received notification from the president's office that Mr Museveni will pick nomination forms at midday on Friday.
The picking of forms ends tomorrow July 31 and thereafter the party will embark on the second phase of receiving the completed forms.
Meanwhile, presidential hopeful and former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi had not indicated whether he would comply with the terms of picking the forms or not.
Mr Mbabazi’s communication director, Ms Josephine Mayanja-Nkangi, said Mr Mbabazi’s objection to terms governing the nomination fees as illegal still stands.
“There has not been change of heart about the fees. We will let you know if he will pick the forms,” Ms Nkangi said on telephone.
