Nape Nnauye
The Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) has arrested Chama Cha Mapinduzi Secretary for Ideology and Publicity Nape Nnauye accusing him of attempting to bribe some of party members.
According to initial reports, Nape was arrested after he was accused of planning to pay CCM members money so as to nominate him as MP candidate for Mtama constituency.
Nape was arrested at around 10:30am at National Microfinance Bank (NMB) on Msonobarini Street after a group of plain clothed police detained him outside the bank. He was taken to PCCB office for further interrogation.
According to reports, the investigation took almost five hours from 10:30am to 3:30pm, then he was discharged and continued with other activities.
A team of journalists witnessed three plain cloth police officers arrested Nape outside the bank trying to resist such orders. However, he eventually agreed and went with them to PCCB offices.
“We are PCCB police officers so we want you to obey the order so that we cannot tarnish your image,” he said.
However, reports have not yet determined the amount of the money taken by Nnauye, who is also MP candidate for Mtama constituency.
He told reporters outside the PCCB offices about the incident and he admitted that PCCB arrested him in connection with allegations that he tried to bribe some of the party members but he said he went to the bank for his personal issues.
“I wasn’t interrogated by PCCB officers but I went to the bank for my personal issues and not otherwise,” said Nape.
PCCB police commander, Stephen Chami promised to provide details concerning the issue and he told journalists to remain calm as they are continuing with investigation and later the whole issue will be revealed.
However, after five hours of investigation, Chami admitted to interrogate Nape adding that the money which was found by him was supposed to be used for paying his agents.
