National Social Security Funds (NSSF) has said it expects to meet set deadlines in the construction project of some 7600 affordable houses which is part of its on going initiative to provide decent affordable housing in Dar es Salaam city and elsewhere in the country.
However these houses are specifically to be sold to NSSF members on long term loan basis. They are to be constructed in Dege Village, Kigamboni, Temeke district.
The announcement was made by NSSF Director General, Dr Ramadhani Dau yesterday in Dar es Salaam as he addressed members of the board of trustees who visited the project site.
Dau explained that the project will cost an estimated USD 5048 and is due for completion by the end of 2018.
According to Dau, the project will be implemented in three phases with the first phase scheduled for completion by the end of 2016 and will have some 2,500 houses.
The second phase is expected to be completed a year later in 2017, and will see the erection of another 2500 houses while the third phase is planned for completion in 2018 and will have 2,460 houses.
"The houses are expected to be sold between USD 80,000 to USD 130,000 and the fund is ready to begin receiving advance payments,” he said
He reassured would be residents that Dege village will have all social services including schools, hospitals, houses of worship, parks, places of comfort range and facilities of defence and security.
Chairman of the Board of Trustees NSSF, Abubakari Rajab, said the board is satisfied with the progress of the project and is optimistic all completion dates will be met in time.
Dege Village is being built by the NSSF after it entered a joint venture with Azimio Company which has land in the ups of 3000 acres in Dar es Salaam alone.
