IPP Executive Chairman Dr Reginald Mengi has won two top awards at the CNBC Africa ‘All Africa Business Leaders Awards’ (AABLA) for the East African round.
AABLA are the most prestigious business awards on the African continent and the ceremony was held in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi on Saturday night.
Dr Mengi was bestowed the 2014 East African ‘Business Leader of the Year Award’.
Also, it was announced that the presiding judges had additionally
decided to honour him with the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ for his part in pioneering corporate social responsibility in Tanzania.

The IPP Executive Chairman, who featured on the July 2014 cover page of Forbes Africa, contributes much of his time and resources to philanthropy causes such as supporting people with disability, poverty eradication and economic empowerment, all of which impact disadvantaged communities.
The ‘Business Woman of the Year Award’ category lauded Kenya’s Tabitha Karanja as an industry leader owing to her 18 years as CEO of Keroche Breweries Limited, a company that employs over 300 people and gives back to the community through youth education, in turn creating the next generation of business leaders in her country.
Manoj Shanker, CEO and founder of Technobrain Limited in Tanzania, was named ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ as a communications technology solutions developer and for his successful set up of a unique pro-African company that puts the continent first and has the capacity to win and deliver major projects in countries across the world.
East Africa’s ‘Young Business Leader of the Year’ accolade went to Helvetic Solar CEO Patrick Ngowi, a Tanzanian serial entrepreneur and enterprise pioneer whose company is the fastest-growing network in renewable energy in East Africa.
Ngowi now has over 300 people under his leadership, contributing to growth and development while focusing on commercial initiatives in Tanzania and across the region.
As Africa’s most respected business awards, AABLA recognises the continent’s trade and industry game-changers in a variety of categories that mirror the multifaceted nature of the African business environment.
“We salute the East African AABLA winners who represent the highest standard of boldness and rare character in the region’s business landscape,” Kenya Breweries Limited Managing Director Joe Muganda said at the ceremony, adding: “These pioneering leaders exemplify the vision and spirit of a dynamic African economy.”
The Southern and West African regional finals are scheduled to take place next month, leading up to the pan-continental AABLA finale on November 4.
