Mr Mrango takes over from Prof Mwajabu Possi whose three-year term ended on February 15.
Mr Mrango holds a Master’s Degree in System Development as well as a degree in Economic and Statistics from Dublin University and the University of Dar es Salaam respectively.

He held several public posts including permanent secretary in the Ministry of Infrastructure from February 2011 to September 2013.
The Minister for Information, Culture, Artistes and Sports, Mr Nape Nnauye, said yesterday that Mr Mrango would be joined by six members of the board who were appointed by the minister.
The new members are the Tanzania Information Services Director, Mr Assah Mwambene, and a senior lecturer at the University of Dar es Salaam’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication, Dr Ayub Rioba.
Others are Mr William Kallaghe, Mr Mustapha Ismail, Ms Elimbora Muro and Mr Mick Kiliba who will serve as board members for the next three years.
“We hope that the elected members will help improve efficiency and productivity of TBC in terms of its broadcasting and technology,” said Mr Nnauye.
He added: “Because they are the people with different good backgrounds we believe they will push for the improvement of the corporation’s performance.”
