Mvomero
The government in Mvomero District has allocated 10,000 acres of land to a farmers and pastoralists association as part of ongoing efforts to address land disputes in the area.
Dubbed, Twende Pamoja, the association’s Chairman, Ally Hawaya, made the announcement during a meeting to work on challenges faced by communities there and to come up with sustainable solutions.
Speaking during the meeting, Hawaya said apart from allocating them the 10,000 acres of land, the leadership of Mvomero District has pledged to provide them with an additional 700 plots for the construction of residential houses.
“The next step is to pay for the land certificates immediately so that we can restore our farming lands at Mela village,” he said.
Hawaya noted that apart from the government’s pledge to return farms to the villagers, the association also plans to request for more land from the government to again help in the ongoing efforts to curb land conflicts in the region.
“We are now holding talks with the Morogoro municipal and district authorities where we expect to secure 300 plots in the municipality for residential houses, 700 in Morogoro district and 10,000acres,” added the association’s Chairman.
Earlier on, during the opening the meeting, Division Officer for Morogoro municipality Sulupisius Pakalapala called upon the association members to respect each other and also apply for plots at the municipality s and they will be assisted to secure them.
He called upon the community members to understand and respect boundaries of their areas as the basis to peace.
“You must also make sure you get all the important documents that verify your ownership of the land to minimizing disputes at the area,” he urged.
