Excellencies;
Ladies and Gentlemen;

The Tourism industry is one of the most popular businesses in the world. It is among the highly contributing sectors to the economic advancement of many countries worldwide. According to the United Nations World Tourism Organisation, more than 1.1 billion tourists travelled all over the world in
2014 bringing in a total of  U$1.5 trillion as international tourism receipts.

For Tanzania, this industry accounts for about 17.2% of the GDP and nearly 25% of the total export earnings. The enormous economic importance of tourism especially as an “engine of employment “is to date visibly valid as it supports an estimated number of 500,000 jobs directly.  It is also one of the biggest employers in the country and the number one foreign exchange contributor to the economy.

I sincerely hope that through joint efforts all tourism players in the country will continue to vigorously promote Tanzania as the number one Tourist Destination in Africa, and see that Tanzania’s place on the tourism world map stands out and is more significant with great visibility.

Ladies and Gentlemen;
I have been told that in the past two years Tanzania has received a number of accolades, including being named as one of the ‘Best Safari Destination’(by safaribookings.com); ‘One of the Top 5 world’s  most stunningly beautiful countries to visit” (by Fox News) ‘One of the best places to visit “ by Travel and Leisure; and  ‘  One of the 52 Best Places to visit in 2015’ (by The New York Times), to mention a few. All of these accolades are a testimony to show the efforts made by the The Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism ,The Tanzania Tourist Board in particular and tourism stakeholders to see that the Land of Kilimanjaro, Zanzibar and the Serengeti continues to be the “Best Destination in Africa”.

I would like to congratulate the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism and all stakeholders in the tourism industry for all these remarkable achievements.

Excellencies;
Ladies and Gentlemen;

Tourism is one of the few sectors in the country where the private sector played a significant role even before liberalization of our economy. Today, the sector is moving toward a clear separation of functions between the public and private sector. The private sector now, as has been the case before, participates in activities that produce goods or render services that can realize profits. On the other hand the public sector’s responsibility is to create an enabling environment for the private sector facilitating it, thus making it possible to perform better at its best.

In order to enable this environment for the industry, massive efforts have been made, a number of measures have been undertaken by the government. I wish to assure you that the Government is fully committed to the successful development of the tourism industry in Tanzania and will continue to ensure that there is a conducive environment for this development to take place.
I am glad and highly commend all the companies from the Private Sector that have taken the initiative to begin tapping the international as well as domestic markets through the medium of this international tourism show.

Excellencies;
Ladies and Gentlemen;

S!TE is proving to become a vital tool for promoting both domestic and international tourism. It provides a good forum through which the tourism industry stakeholders and its connected services providers share experiences, become more aware of the available tourism products and opportunities, and of course how to use them. By creating a new paradigm and mapping out strategies through marketing methods, benchmarking of other developed tourism countries and exchanging tourism information and business, we can strengthen Tanzania’s tourism industry to contribute more to the National Economy.
It is therefore our responsibility to see that S!TE continues to grow by providing it with the required resources and morale it deserves.
