Morogoro. At least six out of 19 bodies of those who were burnt in an accident that involved a bus, Nganga Express, that was travelling to Mbeya from Kilombero and a Mitsubishi Fuso truck on Sunday have been identified, according to the Morogoro regional police commander.
Briefing journalists yesterday Commander Leonard Paul said other bodies were still being preserved at the St Kizito Hospital in Mikumi District.
He said: “The bodies which could be identified were those of Hadija Legembo, 35, a resident of Kilombero, Lidya Ndongwe, 16, a Form Three pupil at St Francis in Mbeya and Ms Esta Mgimba, 30, a resident of Njombe.”
Other bodies have been identified as those of  Nelson Patrick a two-year-old child from Njombe, Marietha Ponsiano, 19, a Kilombero resident and Mengo Njagaje, 30, a resident of Mbeya.
He also named those who sustained injuries to include Majaliwa Elisha, 21, a Form Three pupil at st Mary’s school in Mbeya, Linda Jonathan, 26, a resident of Mbeya, Rose Seth, 18, a Form Four pupil at Sanje Secondary School in Kilombero and Elias Augustino, 36, a resident of Kilombero.
Others were Batista Emanuel, 44, a resident of Mbeya, Abubakar Athumani, 36, a resident of Ruaha Emanuel Omarino, 18, a pupil at Konsolata Secondary School in Iringa, Teresia Kusila, 25, a resident of Ruaha, Shafii Musa, 25, a resident of Kilombero and  Anyindwile Elia, 30, the conductor of  Nganga Express.
Commander Paul said Mr Batista Emmanuel was the driver of Nganga Express travelling from Kilombero to Mbeya with 27 passengers aboard. However, the bus driver lost control of the vehicle about 75 kilometres from Mikumi Township where the bus turned to the right before it collided head-on with the Fuso whose driver is yet to be identified.
He added that it has been suspected that the cause of the fire could be  a motorcycle carried in the booth which might have contained petrol that led to the explosion.
